eChalk is changing!

During the summer of 2016, eChalk and email will be changing. An important part of this change is that eChalk (http://app.echalk.com) and email (http://www.gmail.com) will have separate logons beginning on July 31. Both logons will require the entering of the user's complete e-mail address, not just the username.

eChalk has been updating its features for the past year, leading to a comprehensive change in how the site looks and what it offers. Uniondale students and staff will no longer be able to launch and access their email from within the eChalk gateway. As of July 31, users will be able to send and receive email from the district’s Google Apps domain.

Teachers will be rebuilding their class pages when they return from summer vacation. Self-registered parent eChalk accounts will not become available until later in the fall.

eChalk access for teachers

Before July 31, teachers can continue to log onto legacy eChalk as they did before.

After July 31, use the following url: http://app.echalk.com. Log onto the new system and confirm that your files have transferred correctly.

1.    Locate and click on the “person” icon in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

2.    Select My Files.

3.    Open the Transferred Content file.

4.    Your files from legacy eChalk should be there.

After July 31, legacy eChalk will no longer be accessible. Anyone visiting school or district websites will see new webpages.

eChalk access for students

After July 31, legacy eChalk will no longer be accessible. The new eChalk will not provide a gateway to Gmail; students will have to go directly to http://www.gmail.com and logon with their complete e-mail address in order to access mail.

eChalk access for parents

In legacy eChalk, parents were able to self-register and see the class pages hosted by their children’s teachers. New eChalk will offer similar capability but it will not be available until some time in the fall. Until then, parents are invited to view content on eChalk through public school, district websites as well as published teacher class pages.
